Our Future

	The Salem Animal Rescue League will be required to vacate its current site due to the development of Route 93. We welcome the improvement of our current surroundings, but recognize the significant challenges associated with this move. We remain optimistic and view this as a further opportunity to keep pace with the rapidly changing trends in animal sheltering and humane education. We envision a future as a progressive private shelter with a public-access facility to serve the needs of unwanted companion animals and support the needs of the community, including an Education Center to focus on many issues related to Pet Ownership and Humane Education.

Our goals for the future continue to build on the success of the past. They include:

• Enhanced collaborative partnerships between SARL and the Town of Salem Officials, Law Enforcement and Animal Control Officers, as well as those in neighboring communities
• Education Programs designed to
  • stop the cycle of animal abandonment, neglect, abuse and cruelty
  • support and create bonds between families and recently adopted pets to increase the rate of successful adoptions and long-term placements
  • raise visibility to animal control issues in conjunction with local Animal Officers throughout the area
• Animal Programs that will improve the welfare and outlook of unwanted animals
  • On-site behavioral training for surrendered animals
  • Minimize the stress for animals awaiting adoption
  • Create an alternative to confinement for shelter animals by providing a more natural living space
• Community Resource
  • Provide public-access space for education programs and adoption services
  • Support the connection between animals and people in the community
  • Communicate the many aspects and benefits of responsible pet ownership
  • Expand our current network of local and regional resources

The Salem Animal Rescue League is a vital part of what makes Southern New Hampshire a wonderful place to live. We feel confident that individuals and corporations within the community will rise to the challenge of supporting this worthwhile effort.
